Amino acids are included because they are the most essential precursors for neurotransmitters

LPA (L-Phenylalanine) – Precursor for dopamine. Low dopamine levels are associated with feeling unmotivated, unsatisfied, and lethargic. Dopamine deficiency is also associated with an elevated need for alcohol or substances. (References 5-8).

DPA (D-Phenylalanine) – Neutralizes enzymes in the body that destroy endorphins, increasing endorphin levels. Studies have found that people taking DPA and LPA experience lower intensity and shorter duration of alcohol cravings. (References 3, 4, 13).

L-Tyrosine – Increases natural synthesis of dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine, which regulate adrenal stress hormones. Studies show that L-Tyrosine is effective for reducing alcohol cravings. (References 9, 10).

L-Glutamine – Precursor for GABA. Long-term alcohol use leads to severe deficiencies of two GABA precursors, L-glutamine and vitamin B6. Increasing GABA naturally may help to decrease the risk of emotional swings and alcohol cravings. (Reference 14).

5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophane) – Precursor for serotonin. Several investigations have found that 5-HTP may reduce alcohol intake and cravings (Reference 10), as well as reduce mild to moderate (non-emergency) alcohol withdrawal. (Reference 12).

SAMe (S-Adenysol-L-Methionine) – Enhances serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine production while supporting liver function against oxidative stress caused by alcohol (References 15-17). SAMe is depleted in people with fatty liver due to decreased enzyme activation.

Antioxidants and minerals are included to support healthy neurotransmitter levels and foster whole-body health

Vitamin C – Protects the liver and all cells in the body from alcohol’s toxic byproducts. Vitamin C has been shown to reduce inflammation and may be helpful for improving liver function in heavy drinkers. (Reference 32)

B Complex – Vitamins B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B9 (folic acid), B12 (cobalamin). Long-term alcohol consumption results in severe depletion of all B-vitamins, which serve as co-enzymes in liver detoxification from alcohol, cell and neuron formation, and DNA synthesis. Their neurological functions are fundamental in ensuring “dopamine homeostasis” and production of the neurotransmitters serotonin, GABA and endorphins (References 1-4). A high dose of B complex not only supports cognitive function (Reference 20), it also supports liver detoxification and adrenal function (Reference 21).

Chromium – Increases receptor sensitivity to 5-HTP, enhancing serotonin synthesis and dopamine homeostasis. (Reference 33)

Zinc – The combination of zinc, high dose vitamin C, and SAMe provides strong anti-oxidative protection against the toxic byproducts of alcohol metabolism. Studies show that zinc may be useful for supporting liver health and mood stability. (References 34-35).

CoQ10 – CoQ10 is a compound contained in the mitochondria of cells, helping to generate energy by synthesizing ATP. It is also a potent antioxidant, mopping up dangerous free radicals such as those produced by alcohol metabolism. Since the body does not store excess CoQ10, continual supplementation is recommended for people who need it

Essential Fatty Acids are included because they support liver and brain health

PPC (PolyenylPhosphatidylCholine) – Studies show PPC improves liver function within a few weeks and specifically protects the liver from the toxic byproducts of alcohol metabolism. PPC actually surrounds every cell in the body, and it’s one one of the most potent and well-studied liver support compounds. (References 15, 18, 19).

Three natural bioflavonoid compounds are included because they stand out for their benefits in supporting the gut-liver-brain axis:

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) – Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine for its calming effects. It is known to regulate responses to stress and reduce cortisol levels. Five recent intervention studies found that supplementing with ashwagandha resulted in significantly lower levels of stress (Reference 28).

Acai Berry Powder – These incredibly nutrient-dense berries from the Amazon rainforest include high levels of plant compounds including anthocyanins, a powerful source of natural antioxidants. The antioxidant power of acai berry has been measured at over 300% greater than blueberries.

Red Beet Root Powder – Red beet root powder is a potent source of anti-inflammatory antioxidants and has been shown to help increase nitric oxide levels in the body. Nitric oxide is necessary to promote blood vessel dilation and circulation, thereby helping to ensure the delivery of critical nutrients to tissues and cells.

In contrast to cheaper products, Nutrient Support contains absolutely no sugar, artificial sweeteners, or artificial flavours. It is naturally fruit flavoured, and naturally sweetened with two health-promoting natural plants:

Stevia Powder – Stevia is a South American herb related to daisy flowers, also known as “candy leaf.” It has become popular among health enthusiasts because it contains naturally sweet compounds without any sugar. Moreover, there is speculation among scientists that this plant may promote inflammation reduction. It has been used for centuries traditionally for colic, burns, and stomach problems.

Monkfruit Powder – Monkfruit, also known as Luo Han Guo or Swingle Fruit, is a tasty and antioxidant-rich fruit native to East Asia. It is increasingly used along with stevia in higher-end supplements and smoothies to help provide natural sweetness.

The purpose of BioRebalance is to help you address a wide range of nutrient deficiencies that are common in the general population and heavy alcohol drinkers in particular.
